August Wrap Up & September TBR

I’m sure plenty of people have said this already, but I honestly cannot believe it’s September. My dog turns six next month (absolutely relevant) and there are four months until New Year’s Day 2019. Excuse me? When did that happen? Time should slow down, please, thanks.

I didn’t complete my August TBR, as school kept me quite busy the second half of the month. However, I was only a couple of ARCs away from that goal — not too bad, if I do say so myself. I read a total of twelve books last month, with very mixed results.

  • Last Seen Leaving by Caleb Roehrig – 4 stars (CW: murder, sexual assault, rape, internalized homomisia, homomisia, violence, blood)
  • Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria [out October 9] – 3.5 stars (CW: panic attacks, anxiety, PTSD, death of parents)
  • Star-Touched Stories by Roshani Chokshi – 4 stars
  • The Raging Ones by Krista + Becca Ritchie {DNF} – 2.5 stars (CW: death of a parent)
  • Courting Darkness by Robin LaFevers [out February 5] – 5 stars (CW: slut-shaming [challenged], body shaming/humiliation, violence, death, sex, mention of sexual assault + rape, death in childbirth)
  • The Reader by Traci Chee {DNF} – 3 stars (CW: gore, death, blood, mention of suicide, cannibalism, panic attacks, kidnapping)
  • You Bring the Distant Near by Mitali Perkins – 3.5 stars (CW: racism, Islamophobia, death of a parent, 9/11)
  • The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner {DNF} – 1 star
  • Roar by Cora Carmack {DNF} – 1 star (CW: abuse)
  • The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson {for school} – 2 stars
  • Rebel Seoul by Axie Oh – 4 stars (CW: torture, war)
  • Beowulf by unknown {for school} – 1 star

Last month was a mess, if I’m being honest, and not just in terms of books. But Courting Darkness made up for it; being approved for your most anticipated release is a rare, spectacular feeling, and when it’s more amazing than you ever could’ve imagined, that makes it even better.

A couple of other things:

  1. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before came out on Netflix! I loved it, my family loved it, and I’ve seen it five times now. If you can, 10/10 would recommend watching it as soon as possible! *heart eyes*
  2. I redesigned my blog and I’m really proud of it! Yes, the new art is a sneak peek of what I’ve got planned. So, you know, you could…check it out…if you wanted. 😉

My September TBR is very ambitious, even though I’ll be busy all month with school. This is me we’re talking about, so what do you expect? I hope to get through all of these books, but who knows. I don’t even know what I’ll wear tomorrow. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Down and Across by Arvin Ahmadi
  • Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi
  • The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano (I’m currently reading this one!)
  • I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sánchez
  • The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
  • American Panda by Gloria Chao
  • The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
  • Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire
  • The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
  • The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
  • You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone by Rachel Lynn Solomon
  • The Navigator’s Touch by Julia Ember (so excited for this one to come out!)
  • Sadie by Courtney Summers [out September 4]
  • I Do Not Trust You by Laura J. Burns + Melinda Metz [out September 11]

Eleven of these fourteen are library books with impending due dates — no one can say the bibliophile life is easy.

Tell me: How many books did you read in August? Any favorites? Which ones are on your radar and/or TBR this month? I’d love to know! 🙂

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a fabulous day/night! ❤

Until next time…

  1. I read 10 books in August, my best reading month so far this year! Have to say it was thanks to the Booktubeathon, relit my love of reading as I was suffering a bit of a reading slump! Read my first ever Manga as well, so August was quite the reading experience. Hope it continues into September as it’s my last full month off before I go into my final year at uni 😬🙈 xx
