2016 Year in Review – Book Tag

Hi guys! I’m home sick today, for the second day in a row, and since I don’t want to sleep I thought I’d write a post instead. πŸ˜‰

I was tagged by Azia to do this tag, so thank you Azia! I decided to do this today because it’s a fun post, but also doesn’t require too much thinking. That’s what I need right now, and I haven’t done a tag yet this year anyway. This tag seems like a really fun way to summarize my 2016 reading life, so let’s get right to it! πŸ˜€

1. Trump vs. Clinton – name your favorite character rivalry.

I can’t think of many rivalries off the top of my head, so let’s go with… Rhys and Tamlin. It’s mentioned a few times that there’s bad bloodΒ between them, and Feyre only really made it worse. I think I’ve seen more about this on Twitter than actually in the book, but it’s still amusing to me. And I’m sure it goes without saying that I’m 100% Team Rhys.

2. Turkey failed coup – a book you started but didn’t finish.

This is probably one of the most unpopular opinions in the YA community, regarding favorite series. The one I’m thinking of is hugely popular, so I was excited to find it at the library back in February or March of last year. I started reading, and halfway through was bored by the story and uninterested in the characters, so I stopped reading. *hides*

3. PokΓ©mon Go – what book did you buy/read because of hype? Did you enjoy it?

I could use a lot of different books for this answer, because for me 2016 was the year of catching up on all the hyped books. Well, almost all of them. School got in the way. But anyway, for this question I’m going to go with the series that recently had me read three books in five days. If you follow me on literally any other platform, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about.

I got Vampire Academy for my birthday last June, and finished the series in September. In October I started Bloodlines, but it took me considerably longer to get through. I didn’t get to the third book until January. A couple of weeks ago I got the fourth, and over the last five days I binge-read the last three books in the series. They were a combination of soul-crushing and absolutely adorable, and I honestly couldn’t stop myself. I kind of don’t know what to do with my life now, since I’m done with all twelve books in this world. It’s bittersweet. ❀

4. Stranger Things – what’s one book you want everyone to read?

I’m not letting myself repeat books, and I think you all know I can’t recommend ACOTAR and VA enough anyway. So instead, I’ll go with a book I’ve mentioned a lot in my past few posts. I love raving about how cute and amazing it is, and that more people need to read it. Here’s your hint: UNICORNS. πŸ˜‰

I’m sure none of you are surprised by this…

5. Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Mr. Robot – what was your favorite cliffhanger within a book series?

The first answer that came to mind was a Richelle Mead book. The second answer, the one I’m going to go with, is actually for the fifth book in a series. I could probably think of a ton of answers for this question if I wanted to, but for now I won’t. The final book in this series comes out in December, and I don’t want to wait for it because I NEED TO KNOW IF SOMEONE IS OKAY. πŸ™‚

6. The Tragic Crisis in Aleppo – name the last book that made you cry/teary-eyed.

I’ve never cried or even teared up while reading, but there are still plenty of books that have broken my heart and crushed my soul. I’m going to break my rule and repeat a series, only because it’s been on my mind constantly for the last five days. Again, this should come as no surprise.

#5 and #6 in the Bloodlines series. I’m also including #4, The Fiery Heart, in this answer, but without the picture because for some reason it wouldn’t load. Note: if you plan on reading this series or VA, prepare yourself. πŸ™‚

7. Brexit – name a book you have an unpopular opinion towards.

Another unpopular opinion? Hmm. Oh, I know! In October I read the first book in a popular fantasy trilogy and loved it, then didn’t finish the sequel when I picked it up last month. The story was unique, but I just liked it a lot less than the first.

8. Leonardo DiCaprio Finally Won the Oscar – what was your most anticipated book release?

In lieu of using a SJM book, I’ll go with one by my second favorite author. I was lucky enough to win an ARC of this in a giveaway, and then meet her because she came close to me on tour. It’s still surreal to this day, honestly, and I seriously need the sequel in my life.

9. In Memorium – name a memorable character death.

Okay, so for this one I won’t specifically say my answer because I don’t want to spoil anyone. I think most of you have read this book, but in case you haven’t I’ll keep my mouth shut. If you haven’t read this, prepare yourself because it’s heartbreaking.

10. Samsung Phones – name a book that blew your mind.

Okay, first, I love this question. I find it very amusing. As for my answer, this book came out just a few months ago and concluded a series. I think just about everything about this book blew my mind, especially the ending. I never saw it coming.

I don’t know who’s done this and who even does tags anymore, so I’m just going to tag my friend Erika. And if you want to do this, I tag you too!

What was your favorite book of 2016? What was your most anticipated release? Do you agree with any of my answers? I’d love to know! Tell me in the comments! πŸ™‚

I’m off to continue reading Trusting You and Other Lies by Nicole Williams and hopefully start feeling better. πŸ™‚ I hope you all have a fabulous day/night! ❀

Until next time…

  1. Great choices! πŸ˜€ Lady Midnight was definitely one of my top anticipated releases last year and I’m so glad it did not disappoint. That cliffhanger doe…I need Lord of Shadows now! And Crooked Kingdom was most certainly a fantastic read. I think I might need to read that duology again. I miss the characters. And Team Rhys all the way. Wonderful choice and lovely post πŸ˜‰
