Hi guys, and happy New Year’s Eve eve! I can’t believe tomorrow is the last day of 2016. I’m glad to see it go, honestly, because it just wasn’t good for me or anyone else, but I’m also shocked that it’s already over.
And with the end of the year comes a flood of blog posts. There will most likely be daily posts for the next week or so, to wrap up 2016 and look ahead to the new year. Sometime in that period I’ll also be announcing a big change as well, so keep an eye out for that. 🙂
Anyway, I’ll stop rambling, as this is long already. Let’s get into the post! The first section will be looking back on this year, and the second will be looking ahead to the new one. 😉
I had a fair amount of goals for this year. Let’s see how I did!
1 // Read 130 books.
I didn’t pull this off, but I got pretty close. Goodreads currently says I’ve read 108, but by tomorrow night it should be at a total of 109. So while I did well, #fail.
2 // Don’t add any more books to my TBR.
Hahah, definitely #fail. I started the year off with 260 books on my Goodreads TBR and it’s currently at 133, but a few months ago it was at 42. *shrug* XD
3 // Keep up with and expand my blog.
I didn’t post quite as much as I would’ve liked, but I did start sharing more things with you guys and I never disappeared. #success
4 // Keep track of all the books I read each month.
Definitely a #success! I have wrap ups for each month in my Notes app on my phone that include the days I read that book and my star rating. One of the posts I have planned is a 2016 wrap up that includes all 109 books I read. (Even though I’m not done with The Winner’s Kiss yet, I’ll finish tomorrow. It counts.) 😉
5 // Make more bookish friends, online and in real life.
I met a bunch of new people online this year! I didn’t exactly reach out, but commenting on blog posts and Instagram pictures and joking around on Twitter led to something bigger. I’m in a group chat on Twitter with all of my online friends and I check it every day, a few times per day. As for real life, I didn’t do so well. I met people that like to read, but none to the extent that I do. Either way, I’m counting this as a #success! 😀
6 // Keep my grades up.
This was the first of my general resolutions, and I did well. My lowest grade this year was a 78%, aka a C+, and that only happened maybe twice. #success 🙂
7 // Overcome my fear of public speaking.
I had to give a few introductory presentations at the start of the school year and a few legitimate ones, both in the spring and fall semesters. I didn’t get sick or start bawling or anything, even though I felt like doing both. I was still really, really nervous though. So… tentative #success?
8 // Improve my physical abilities.
Hahah, total #fail. Once I finished my PE class in the spring semester, I basically stopped doing any exercise. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In total, I had 3 fails and 5 successes. I think that’s pretty good! Hopefully I have equally good (maybe even better?) luck with my 2017 resolutions! 🙂
I actually made a separate post about my reading resolutions, so this will focus on general goals. 🙂
1 // Improve my self-confidence.
I worry people at school will judge what I wear, and that they and people online will think what I have to say is weird. I’m going to try to get over that, because I want to be who I am and not care what others think. (It’s cheesy but it’s true.)
2 // Overcome my public speaking fear.
This is a recurring resolution from last year. I don’t know if I’ll ever completely overcome it, but I want to get it under control. I’ll spare the details, but if you have this fear too you’ll probably get it.
3 // Be more open and understanding.
This is hard to explain because it pertains to personal things I haven’t shared here, or anywhere online. I might open up about it later. Everything is okay, but I don’t feel comfortable sharing quite yet.
4 // Balance reading, exercising, studying, and blogging.
Basically, I want to create some sort of routine so that I can still read a couple of books, post a few times, study, and exercise each week. I don’t want to take a week to read a book or go a week without posting anymore.
5 // Increase my stamina and general physical abilities.
This also relates to one of my resolutions from this year. I don’t have good stamina (unless reading sprints count, hahah) and have difficulty with many kinds of exercises. I want to fix that, especially since I have two more PE classes to endure before my high school years are over.
6 // Limit the amount of chocolate I eat and improve my daily diet.
I have a natural sweet tooth and don’t eat as healthily as I could/should. I want to improve that, and I think a lot of people have similar resolutions. But what can I say? Chocolate and cupcakes and ice cream taste so good, I can’t resist. 😛
7 // Keep my grades at B- (80%) or higher.
I’ve come to realize that I won’t be able to get perfect scores in every class, and I used to stress over anything less than an A- (90%). I’ve gotten better at this, but now that I’m going into my second semester of all honors classes and plan to continue that in the fall school year, I can’t kill myself trying to get good grades. So my goal is to make sure I at least keep my grades at a B- or higher, and not stress as much. 😉
8 // Ask questions in class.
In relation to #1, I want to get past being too shy to ask a question in class. For some reason I think that people will think my questions are stupid, or that I am for asking. I’m slowly improving at this, and in 2017 I want to take it all the way.
9 // Speak up.
This ties into #1 as well. Both online and in real life there have been times where I wanted to make a nerdy reference or a witty reply, but haven’t in fear of people not understanding or thinking it’s stupid. I’m going to work on saying what comes to mind, and also just being less of a shy person in general. I don’t plan on becoming loud or really outgoing, just talking a bit more. 😉
10 // Maintain my bullet journal.
Even though I won’t officially be starting to use it until Sunday, I’ve already spent a good 5-6 hours working on spreads for my bullet journal since I got it on Christmas Day. I find it fun and also calming, in a way, so I want to stay on top of this in the new year. 😀
11 // Develop sleep schedules.
I don’t mind staying up late, but for the better part of this year I haven’t been getting to bed until around 10:30 pm or later, even during the week. I don’t want this to start affecting my grades, so I want to work on getting to bed by 9:30 pm during the week, or 9 on good nights. Saturday nights and breaks from school can be a bit more lenient and wild, but in general I want to get more sleep. 😉 *
* In case you were wondering, by “wild” I meant reading later than I normally would, or playing cards or Nintendo games for an extra half hour like the rebel I am. XD
12 // Get to school earlier.
This kind of relates to #11. When I get to sleep late, I wake up late, and I’ve been getting to school with maybe 5 minutes before my first class starts. I’m rarely late, and my teacher in that class is lenient, but my goal is to get to school and not have to rush. Maybe even start getting there early enough to read for 20 minutes in the library before class. 😉
See? I wasn’t kidding when I said this was long. I’m done now though! 😛
