My Monday Musings #11 – I Ditch a Dance for the Dregs

Hi guys! Happy Monday! Normally those two words don’t go together for me, but I’m pretty happy today so it works. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I ditched a dance for the Dregs.

I decided to mention this first, in case you were wondering what the title meant. To put it simply, my school’s homecoming dance was this past weekend and I didn’t go. I had more important ways to spend my night, like reading.ย I also had no one to go with, but that’s beside the point.

So if you haven’t already figured it out,

Crooked Kingdomย by Leigh Bardugo!

I wasn’t able to get a copy on Tuesday when the book came out, but I was hoping to stop at Target over the weekend to get the exclusive edition. But I stopped at my school library after school on Friday because I noticed they got a box, and my school librarian had Crooked Kingdom on hold with a couple of others books I have waiting for me. I’ve talked about it that much. XD

I managed to read 105 pagesย between Friday afternoon and Saturday night, and yesterday I read all the way up to the beginning of part five. There are only six parts, and today so far I’ve read half of part five, so I’m really close to finishing and I’m so not ready to. I won’t sayย muchย else because I don’t want to spoil any of you, but I’ll leave it at this: tons of emotions, and I hope everyone is okay. ๐Ÿ˜‰

(I’ll just leave this gorgeous fan art here. Credit to artist.)

In other words, happy October! I honestly can’t believe it’s this late in the year. I’m not the biggest fan of cooler weather or scary things, but I do love the colors, picture opportunities, costumes, and candy, so I’m mostly happy. ๐Ÿ˜›

The only downside to October is midterms. They stress me out almost as much as finals do, even though most of the time I just get myself worked up over nothing. I have a couple this week and, probably, the rest next week. As a result, I might not be reading or blogging as much as I’d like to, but I won’t let that stop me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

(Also, conferences are this week, and I think I’m the only one in my school that’s looking forward to them. I always have, and honestly, I don’t know why.)

I have a lot of other things on my mind, but they’re personal and kind of depressing, so I won’t mention those. I’m okay, but you could say I’m in an emotional slump. But like I’ve said before, I want this to be my happy place on the Internet, and in general, so we’re going to leave my complicated feelings out of this. >.<

And on a happier note, I’ve been feeling very musical lately. Bea Miller songs are often playing on my phone through Spotify or YouTube, and I have her album blasting as I write this. On top of that, I’ve had 2 of the 3 songs we’re learning in my choir class randomly wiggle their way into my head, where they stay for a while. I think it’s kind of ironic, considering I’m actually not enjoying the class quite as much as I used to, but the songs are still catchy. ๐Ÿ˜€

(There’s actually a trio performing for one of the songs and I wanted to audition for my voice part. I’ve never auditioned for anything before in my life, because I just don’t have the courage for solos and otherwise I haven’t been interested enough. I was planning to audition, but I was unlucky enough to be sick at home those days. I have great timing, haha.)

And that wraps up this post!

What are you currently reading? Have you read Crooked Kingdom, or are you reading it now? What music have you been loving lately? I’d love to know! Tell me in the comments! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m off to read more of Crooked Kingdom and hopefully not have my heart crushed. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I hope you all have a fabulous day/night! โค

Until next time…

  1. Yaaaay! You’re reading Crooked Kingdom!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I just finished last night and all I’ve got to say is “woah.” So many emotions. I gotta pull myself together before I write the review. I’m not ready to let these amazing characters go just yet. I may have to do some rereading. But I hope you love it ๐Ÿ˜€ I most certainly did โค

  2. I’m hoping to finish SoC tonight and it’s so unbelievably good! (I really don’t know why I waited this long to begin this duology… seeing as I loved the Grisha trilogy as well.) And, aww, stay strong, Olivia! I hope you feel better (with all the emotional stuff). And haha, I’ve heard of Bea Miller before. I have one of her songs downloaded in my iTunes library; I think it’s called Dracula?? I could be wrong. XD

    1. I’m so glad you’re enjoying SOC! I felt the same way when I read it over the summer. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yeah, one of her songs is called Dracula. I love it haha. And thank you Summer, I will! โค๏ธ
