7 Books That Surprised Me

Hi guys! I made sure to plan well today and get this posted even with wi-fi problems, because I was determined not to miss my designated post day for the second time in a row. I feel really bad about missing Wednesday, even though that post did goย up yesterday, so I’m going to start planning ahead better. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, today I have for you: a list of 7 books that surprised me!

It’s very self-explanatory, so I’m just going to dive right in! ๐Ÿ˜‰

If I have reviews for any books mentioned or others in the series, they’ll be linked.
1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas // TAB review

tog

Because is it really my blog if I don’t incorporate one of Sarah’s books into every post SOMEHOW??ย ๐Ÿ˜›

I got the first book at the library sometime last summer after hearing about it online, thinking it might be cool. To say I was right is an understatement. It has a secure spot as my #2 favorite book/series of all time list, and Empire of Storms has been my most anticipated book release ever since I finished Queen of Shadows nearly a year ago. โค

2. Unicorn Tracks by Julia Ember // UT review

UT

Can we take a moment to admire how freaking gorgeous this cover is?? I need a physical copy!!

This is actually a fairly recent read. I was sent a digital copy for review by Julia last month and honestly, I was hooked at “unicorns.” But even then, I wasn’t expecting a lot. This book absolutely blew my mind and it’s just amazing! More people definitely need to know about and read it, especially if you’re obsessed with unicorns as much as I am. ๐Ÿ˜€

3. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs // MPHFPC review, HC review, LOS review

MPHfPC

After hearing Jesse rave about it almost constantly, I had high expectations for this upon starting. It exceeded all my hopes, and the trilogy is now one of my all time favorites. It was haunting and whimsical and creepy and fantastic…if you haven’t read it, go read it! ๐Ÿ˜€

Although that last part basically applies to every book on this list. Let’s be real here.

4. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin // TUOMD review, TEOMD review, TROMD review

TUOMD

I went into this expecting an average paranormal, creepy read. I got a gripping psychological thriller with hallucinations, an unreliable narrator, and one of the best male leadsย ever. I’m aware that this is a pretty popular trilogy, but I honestly think more people should recognize it. I cannot wait for The Shaw Confessions!ย โ™ฅ_โ™ฅ

5. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead // VA review, F review, SK review (BP review coming soon!)

VA

Even before joining the online book community, I’d seen this book absolutely everywhere. When I was younger I just brushed it off because I was more interested in Rick Riordan and Disney princesses, and as a tween/new teen I continued to do so, assuming it would be clichรฉ. I’m so glad I gave it a chance, though, because it’s by far the most unique vampire story I’ve ever read. I’m currently reading the fourth book, Blood Promise, and… wow. >.<

6. Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger // E&E review

E&E

This is the most recent addition to the list, and also the most lighthearted. But it was really fun to read, and the steampunk elements were one of many surprises. I would definitely say this is an underrated series, and more people need to read it. I know I’ll be continuing as soon as possible. ๐Ÿ˜‰

7. Kids of Appetite by David Arnold // KOA review

KoA

Aka the ARC I desperately need a finished copy of…like, now.

Okay, maybe it’s kind of mean to gush about a book that isn’t out yet. But it’s so, so good! I got an ARC at BookCon, but wasn’t too excited until hearing David say it was inspired by and mentioned The Outsiders – aka one of my all time favorites, and the only classic I’ve read and enjoyed. I honestly can’t adequately explain my feelings regarding this book, but I can say this: when it releases on September 20th, you need to go buy a copy!ย โ™ฅ_โ™ฅ

And that wraps up this post!

Have you read any of these books? Are any on your TBR? What are some books that surprised you? I’d love to know! Tell me in the comments! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m most likely going to bed soon, but hopefully I’ll be reading a bit more of Blood Promise before then. It’s so addictive! ๐Ÿ˜€ I hope you all have a fabulous day/night! โค

Until next time…

    1. I really hope you enjoy VA! Each book is better than the last, in my opinion! ๐Ÿ˜‰ And I hope you enjoy Library of Souls as well! It’s definitely the craziest in the trilogy! ๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you so much! โค๏ธ
