My Monday Musings #5 – School, Souls, and Braces Too

Hi guys! It’s currently after 7 pm as I write this, because I forgot to schedule it and my orthodontist appointment took a really long time. But hey, I’m still doing it, and that’s what counts! πŸ˜‰

So my plan I mentioned in last week’s MMMΒ to post on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday has worked so far. I know it’s only been a week, but we don’t need to worry about details. I’m going to work to keep this up because I think it’ll make my transition into the new school year easier; I’ll only have three designated post days, so I don’t have to stress. πŸ˜‰

And on that note, today was my first day of my second week of school. With the classes I signed up for, I was expecting a heavy workload from day one, but so far the most I’ve had to bring home is a get-to-know-you worksheet for French. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not complaining…I’m just, let’s say, pleasantly surprised. I also got a schedule change confirmation today, so I moved from a study hall to library aid! I’m not sure how many schools offer this, so if you’re not familiar: it’s a lot like being an office aid and delivering passes or worksheets, but helping in the library instead. I shelve returned books, help giveΒ new books the library makeover, recommend books the library should get, and anything else necessary to make sure the library stays the best place in the school. And as an added bonus, I can spend any time I’m not “working,” fangirling with my school librarian*, doing homework, or reading in one of the library’s huge leather chairs. πŸ˜€

* She’s currently reading City of Bones for the first time, and I’mΒ way too excited to talk about it with her as she reads. XD

Another fun fact related to school, not related to my library tangent, is that today I learned the French alphabet, so I now know two. I can even sing them both! Of course, I’m still a bit slower if I’m speaking French, but I’m proud of myself.Β πŸ˜€

If you were wondering why “souls” was included in my title, it’s because of my current read: Incarnate by Jodi Meadows! It’s the first book in the Newsoul trilogy (Get the pun now? We’re going to pretend it was an actual pun.) and I’ve been hearing about it for so long, so I’m glad to finally be reading it. I’m about 150 pages in, and while it isn’t what I was expecting, it’s good so far. πŸ™‚

Also, all the books in the trilogy have some of the most gorgeous covers ever. *heart eyes*

And finally, the part where I couldn’t think of a word to complete my double alliteration (#nerd)… braces. I have had them for a little under 13 months and probably have a bit over 11 months with them, but at today’s orthodontist appointment I was given something new and more painful. (That’s not even sarcasm, honestly.) I was given rubber bands. If you know anything about braces, you’re probably wondering what I’m talking about, because you typically get to choose a new band color at each appointment. But this time I’m talking about the other bands – where you have to attach them to two brackets for some complicated reason or another. This is my first time ever getting them, and only three hours later I can say for sure that I’m not a fan. >.<

An hour and eight YouTube videos later, I’ve run out of interesting (well, hopefully) things to talk about, so I’ll wrap up this week’s MMM here. πŸ˜‰

What are you currently reading? Have you read Incarnate? Do you have (/have you had) braces? I’d love to know! Tell me in the comments! πŸ™‚

I’m off to bed, but a bit more reading is also possible. πŸ˜‰ I hope you all have a fabulous day/night! ❀

Until next time…

HOG post end

Come visit me! πŸ˜€

  1. I totally feel your pain about braces! I had a palette expander in elementary school with metal head gear that I had to wear when I slept at night for years, and then braces in middle school. It definitely sucks in the moment, but it’s worth it in the end! Best of luck with your new school year! πŸ™‚

  2. I’m nearly finished wearing my braces after a bit over two years and I have to wear those bands too. I agree with you that they are really painful. In my opinion, having braces is the worst type of pain someone can have. I really like the cover for that book. Seems interesting so I’ll read it when I can. Good luck with your new year of school.

    1. It’s great that you’re almost done with them! I have about a year left, and I agree, they’re one of the most painful things ever. 😁 I hope you enjoy Incarnate if you read it, and thank you! ❀️

  3. That library work sounds so fun omg. My school’s library was mostly school books and all the librarians were cranky old women so definitely no one to fangirl with haha. And I had to wear those rubber bands too and they were the worst, they made me very uncomfortable while speaking (which made me a bit cranky) so I took them out during school. I already speak a bit low so if a teacher asked me to answer in class with those bands they wouldn’t hear me lol
