My Monday Musings #1 – Seraphim vs Splatoon (And Other Distractions)

Hi guys! I know it’s been a few days since my last post, and that recently all I’ve been posting is reviews. I’m sorry for that! ❤ I’ve been very active on my channel, though, and reading. 😉

So I decided to start a new feature (at least, new for me) on my blog called My Monday Musings! Sorry for the not very creative name. I’ll be doing this every Monday, and talking about my current read, other things that I’ve been obsessed with loving, and eventually school. For me, it starts again in roughly three weeks. >.< But anyway, I hope you all like this feature! 🙂

I’m currently reading Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor, the last book in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. I can’t say much about it without spoiling the trilogy, but I can say it’s really good so far. It was a little slow at first, but it’s definitely picking up. Karou and Akiva and all of the other characters are awesome, and I’m (im)patiently waiting for the two of them to get back together. XD

I’m also going to change my rating system a little. One of my friends on Goodreads, I can’t remember who, breaks down and rates each element of the story, then adds them up. That number gives a rating. I’ll be doing something similar. In case that doesn’t make sense (and it probably doesn’t) here’s an example:

plot: out of 20
characters: out of 20
setting: out of 20
relationships: out of 20
twists: out of 20
out of 100

Then, based on the score out of 100, I’ll rate it:

90-100 = 5 stars
85-89 = 4½ stars
80-84 = 4 stars
75-79 = 3½ stars
70-74 = 3 stars
65-69 = 2½ stars
60-64 = 2 stars
59 or lower = 1 star

I’ll get rid of ¼ and ¾ ratings entirely. Hopefully that makes sense. 🙂

Now, enough of math and technicalities. The other thing I wanted to talk about is what distracts me from reading. Twitter not included. That thing is a video game. Actually, as of Saturday, two video games: Splatoon and Yoshi’s Woolly World. I’ve been mentioning Splatoon a lot lately, because it’s my all-time favorite game. Yoshi’s Woolly World is a new, close second. Since I’m terrible at explaining things, here are the game trailers: Splatoon and Yoshi’s Woolly World.

I love playing both of these games, and more often than not I’ll spend a couple of hours with them that I intended to use for reading. I’m working on finding a balance between the games and the books. Both of them are addicting, and I want to play and read all day! I wish that level of multitasking was possible. If they were, I’d have no problem! 😉

And that wraps up my first post of this new feature! 🙂

What are you currently reading? Do you like video games? If so, have you played Splatoon or Yoshi’s Woolly World? I’d love to know! 🙂

I’m off to read and play games. 😛 I hope you all have a fabulous day/night! ❤

Until next time…
