Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Book 4 in the Lux series
Genre: YA paranormal romance
Origin was absolutely fantastic and totally gripping from cover to cover. I was anticipating each time I could sit down to read, not even kidding. ❤
I suspected the plot in this book would be phenomenal after the ending of Opal and I was completely right. The storyline took an entirely different turn than I was expecting and it’s even more complex and amazing than before! 😀 I loved the idea of the origins.
Katy developed a lot and got so much stronger, but also considerably more traumatized. I felt bad for everything she was put through, but I was also so proud of her when she pulled through once again. I can say the same thing about Daemon. I saw a lot more of his sensitive, vulnerable side in this book while he was trying to rescue Katy and protect her later on. Katy and Dee had a chance to repair their friendship completely and I’m so glad. Dee was a fun, fabulous friend and character and amusing too. In this book I also really got to know Dawson and Beth. Dawson was so sweet and protective, and I thought it was impressive after his experiences, as was his bravery. I can relate that to Beth too, because even though she was very quiet and scared, she was also strong enough to deal with everything. 😀 There was a new main character introduced named Archer, and all I’ll say about him is that he’s more important than he seems. 😉 Everyone else was about the same though, and I can’t say much else without spoiling the end.
The story took place in a variety of areas, and it was maintained really well. Everything was described very well and I could get vibrant images in my head no matter where the characters were or what they were doing. I had a few favorite scenes, but they’re all spoiler-y so I’ll have to skim over that. Long story short, the escape, the fight, and that cute scene about ⅔ through (if you’ve read it you’ll know).
I think the relationships were my favorite part of the book. They were all so awesome! ❤ Katy and Daemon grew even closer and it was obvious but not irritating that they were head over heels. They took a huge, secret step in their relationship (it’s not what you think) and I loved it; it’s one of the favorite parts I mentioned earlier. Dawson and Beth were also a really cute couple. They were gentler (understandably) but still great. They also advanced their relationship in secret, although Dawson tells Daemon in the end. That twist has me eager and anxious at the same time! There’s also a hint of something starting with Dee and someone else. 😉 On the non-romantic side, Katy and Dee are friends again. It was really nice and refreshing to see after their “breakup”. They seriously need each other after Katy comes back, and even more so as more twists are revealed. Also, I just want to note that their reunion was so sweet. ❤
I have one thing to say on this: WOW. There were curveballs from the beginning. I didn’t really believe the one Daedalus told Katy until the end, but now it kind of terrifies me. And speaking of the end, OH MY GOD. There was a major betrayal and a few deaths that were pretty sad (and one around ¼ through, but that didn’t bother me). I was shocked a lot, and even though it wasn’t nearly as brutal as Opal, the ending of this left me hungry for more.
This is really random and fairly insignificant, but I loved Katy and Daemon’s fake names. Around ⅔ through (roughly) they were given fake identities and Dee picked out two of the best names ever (hint: they’re book characters). I fangirled when this was mentioned, even though it’s totally unimportant in the grand scheme of things. XD
Origin was a fantastic, mind-blowing book pretty much from page one. I’m eager to get my hands on Opposition, and to see how the series is wrapped up! I don’t actually want it to be over, but I’m also too impatient for it not to be. If that makes sense. XD
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars
I’ll be starting The 5th Wave tomorrow! I decided I don’t want to read To Kill A Mockingbird all at once so I’m reading it slowly with my class. XD
Have you read Origin? Is it on your TBR? If you have read it, what did you think? Feel free to let me know in the comments! 🙂
Until next time- Olivia ❤
