2015 End of the Year Book Survey

Hi guys and Happy New Year!! I hope you all have an amazing 2016. ❀

book survey

So I’ve seen multiple blogs do this and it looked fun, so I decided to do it too. Let’s get started! πŸ™‚ (started by Jamie @ Perpetual Page Turners)

reading-stats

Number of books you read: 62

Number of rereads: 10

Genre you read the most from: YA XD probably fantasy

best-in-books

1 // Best book you read in 2015?

Omg I can’t choose! I read so many amazing books/series this year, like the Throne of Glass series, The Mortal Instruments series, and The Infernal Devices trilogy. I also started (but haven’t finished) the Anna and The French Kiss trilogy, the Lux series, and the Grisha trilogy. There are a bunch of others, too. How do you choose when you have series like these?!

2 // Book you were excited about & thought you were going to love more but didn’t?

Dream A Little Dream by Kerstin Gier and If I Stay by Gayle Forman. These were unfortunately very disappointing to me.

3 // Most surprising (in a good or bad way) book you read?

Probably Throne of Glass. I went into it thinking it sounded cool and that I might like it, and it ended up becoming my favorite series.

4 // Book you “pushed” the most people to read (and they did)?

Throne of Glass. I got my book club to read it and every time I’m at a bookstore and find someone in YA looking for a new book, I show them Throne of Glass. XD

5 // Best series you started in 2015? Best sequel? Best series ender?

The best series I started was Throne of Glass. I can’t pick a best sequel. The best series ender was Winter by Marissa Meyer, the last book in The Lunar Chronicles. πŸ˜€

6 // Favorite new author you discovered in 2015?

Sarah J. Maas, Cassandra Clare, Tonya Kuper, Wendy Higgins, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Tahereh Mafi. If you’ve been following me for a while this was probably very obvious. XD

7 // Best book from a genre you don’t typically read / was out of your comfort zone?

I stayed in my comfort zone in 2015. I read only YA, and within that the standard fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, and contemporary. 2016 will probably be similar, but there’s a lot of variety in those four genres. πŸ˜‰

8 // Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

Queen of Shadows for sure. πŸ˜€

9 // Book you read in 2015 that you’re most likely to reread?

I probably won’t do much rereading this year, although I might reread Queen of Shadows in preparation for Throne of Glass 5.Β (SEPTEMBER 6TH!!!)

10 // Favorite cover of a book you read in 2015?

The Throne of Glass series and the Shatter Me series. πŸ˜€

11 // Most memorable character of 2015?

Aelin Ashryver Galathynius. πŸ˜‰

12 // Most beautifully written book read in 2015?

Omg I don’t know. There were so many.

13 // Most thought-provoking/life-changing book of 2015?

I’m not sure.

14 // Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2015 to read?

There’s a lot. The Mortal InstrumentsΒ series,Β The Infernal Devices trilogy,Β theΒ Shatter Me series, the Lux series, and the Grisha trilogy to name a few.

15 // Favorite passage/quote from a book you read in 2015?

I don’t know how I’m expected to choose an answer for this so I’m not going to. XD

16 // Shortest & longest book you read in 2015?

The shortest was The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton at 192 pages (reread). The longest was Winter by Marissa Meyer at 824 pages. πŸ˜€ (another thing you should know about me is that I’m obsessed with The Outsiders πŸ˜‰ )

17 // Book that shocked you the most? (plot twist, character death, etc.)

Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout,Β Clockwork Princess, and Winter.

18 // OTP of the year?

Rowan and Aelin from Queen of Shadows and Magnus and Alec from The Mortal Instruments. πŸ˜€

19 // Favorite non-romantic relationship of the year?

Cath and Wren from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, Karou and Zuzana from Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, and Aelin and Lysandra from Queen of Shadows. πŸ˜€

20 // Favorite book you read in 2015 from an author you’ve previously read?

Magnus Chase and The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan.

21 // Best book you read in 2015 that you read based SOLELY on someone else’s recommendation / peer pressure?

I don’t have an answer for this one. If someone recommends me a book or series, I’ll check it out on Goodreads and then maybe add it to my TBR. Then if it’s added, I’ll get to it a few months later. XD

22 // Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2015?

Well, I don’t have any crushes, but I’ve found a lot of new male characters that I think are awesome/hilarious/sweet. To name a few- Rowan Whitethorn from Throne of Glass, Dorian Havilliard from Throne of Glass, Chaol Westfall from (you guessed it!) Throne of Glass, Aedion Ashryver from (once again) Throne of Glass, Akiva from Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Daemon from Lux, Magnus Bane from The Mortal Instruments/The Infernal Devices, Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices, Jem Carstairs from The Infernal Devices, Jace Herondale from The Mortal Instruments, Sebastian Morgenstern from The Mortal Instruments, Reid from Anomaly, Kaidan Rowe from Sweet Evil, Aaron Warner from Shatter Me, Kenji Kishimoto from Shatter Me, Levi from Fangirl, and Baz from Carry On. Okay, so I went kind of overboard, but you get the idea. And yes, there’s more. XD

23 // Best 2015 debut you read?

The Wrath and The Dawn by RenΓ©e Ahdieh.

24 // Best world-building / most vivid setting you read this year?

Everything from the entirety of the Throne of Glass series and Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

25 // Book that put a smile on your face / was the most FUN to read?

Kind of cheating here, but all the books I’ve read and rated five stars this year (and gushed about otherwise). πŸ˜€

26 // Book that made you cry or nearly did in 2015?

No book has ever made me cry. I have a heart of stone. XD (not really haha)

27 // Hidden gem of the year?

Anomaly by Tonya Kuper.

28 // Book that crushed your soul?

Clockwork Princess, Opal,Β and Winter. These were all fairly brutal books, especially in the end.

29 // Most unique book you read in 2015?

Control by Lydia Kang.

30 // Book that made you the most mad? (doesn’t mean you didn’t like it)

Dream A Little Dream by Kerstin Gier. The ending was so clichΓ© and infuriating, and Liv seemed to stop thinking.

blogging-life

1 // New favorite book blog you discovered in 2015?

I only started this blog in mid-September and I didn’t actually follow any book blogs until early November when I followed back my first follower. Since then I’ve discovered a bunch of awesome book blogs, and made a lot of great friends. I’ll only name four though, to save space. XD Ashleigh @ A Frolic Through Fiction, Georgia @ Books and Other Miracles, Mariana @ fireheartbooks, and Emily @ Emily Talks About Books. I love talking to them and reading their blogs! πŸ˜€ (you should check them out if you haven’t already)

2 // Favorite review you wrote in 2015?

I don’t really have a favorite, but I do like my review of Shadow and Bone because it was the first one I wrote in my new format. πŸ™‚

3 // Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?

ProbablyΒ my post on public speaking. πŸ™‚

4 // Best event that you participated in? (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)

Definitely going to meet Tonya Kuper and Lydia Kang! They were both so sweet and I talked to them through the entire event. πŸ˜€

5 // Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2015?

All of it. πŸ™‚

6 // Most challenging thing about your blogging or reading life in 2015?

Balancing it with school. It’s really hard. But I’m going to make it work this year! πŸ˜‰

7 // Most popular post this year on your blog?

I checked my stats page and my weekly reading recap for December 23rd-30th has the most comments. πŸ™‚

8 // Post you wished got a little more love?

There aren’t any. I don’t care about numbers. πŸ™‚

9 // Best bookish discovery? (bookish site, store, etc.)

Happy Hello Co on Etsy and Bookworm Boutique on Society6. I love the merchandise in both shops, but unfortunately I haven’t ordered anything from either one yet.

10 // Did you complete any reading challenges or goals you had set for yourself?

No, I didn’t set any challenges for myself in 2015.

looking-ahead

1 // One book you didn’t get to in 2015 but is your number one priority for 2016?

After I finish my last two library books I’m going to read The 5th Wave. I have to read it before the movie comes out!

2 // Non-debut book you’re most anticipating in 2016?

My top four are Stars Above by Marissa Meyer (FEBRUARY 2ND!!!),Β Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare (MARCH 8TH!!!), The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan (MAY 3RD!!!), and Throne of Glass #5 (SEPTEMBER 6TH!!!). I’m really excited, can you tell? XD

3 // Debut book you’re most anticipating in 2016?

All the books I’m really excited for are non-debut. So, I don’t have an answer for this one, haha.

4 // Most anticipated series ending or sequel in 2016?

See #2. Also, The Rose and The Dagger by RenΓ©e Ahdieh (MAY 3RD!!!) and Magnus Chase and The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan (OCTOBER 4TH!!!). Amd again, I’m very excited. XD

5 // One thing you hope to accomplish in your reading/blogging life in 2016?

Complete my Goodreads challenge of 130 books, not add any new books to my TBR, and keep up my blog. πŸ™‚

6 // 2016 release you’ve already read & recommend to everyone?

The only 2016 release I’ve read is Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin, and it was good but not great. Also, it’s a bit more of a mature book. So I don’t have an answer.

And that’s all! That took a lot longer than I thought it would. XD

Until next time- Olivia ❀

      1. I just noticed the second half of your comment. XD But yeah, all the guys in Throne of Glass are epic! I don’t actually have any fictional crushes, but they’re some of my top favorite guy leads. πŸ˜€
